STRONGER BRAINS = SMARTER KIDS

What Is READING BRAINPOWER?
READING BRAINPOWER is a coaching resource that gives adults guidance on how, when, where and what to read with your children with the purpose of enhancing brain development, pre-reading skills, confidence, and school success.
Developed by Literacy Advocate and the co-creator of READING RAINBOW, Cecily Truett Lancit, READING BRAINPOWER isn’t about teaching children how to read — it’s about teaching adults how to read with children.
When babies are born, their brains are only about 60% developed. What happens in the next three years builds the remaining 40% — and daily reading is one of the most powerful ways to fuel that growth.

Through science-backed tips, playful techniques, and joyful routines, READING BRAINPOWER shows parents, grandparents, and caregivers how to use reading time to:

-
Strengthen bonding and emotional connection

-
Build vocabulary and language pathways

-
Stimulate neural networks that prepare the brain for reading success later on

Our goal isn’t early academics — it’s building the brain architecture that makes future reading possible and pleasurable.
A Lifelong Journey of Brain-Building Literacy

READING BRAINPOWER takes a science-based, whole-child approach to literacy that grows with your family. From prenatal brain development through the teen years, each stage of reading plays a critical role in shaping neural pathways, attention, empathy, and imagination.

Our series covers every age and stage of reading development:

-
Prenatal & Birth to Age 3: GROWING YOUR BABY’S PRENATAL BRAIN and BUILDING BABY’S LIBRARY show how reading and singing from the womb through toddlerhood ignite neural growth and language wiring.

-
Ages 4–6: Learn how shared reading supports phonemic awareness, curiosity, and confidence as children begin connecting letters, sounds, and meaning.

-
Ages 7–10: Strengthen comprehension, empathy, and focus as stories become gateways to independent learning.

-
Ages 11–12+: Keep the spark alive with strategies for discussion, deeper engagement, and lifelong literacy habits.
